At RHR, we do things differently.
- First we strip away the old roof and haul away the debris, ensuring that
the nails will penetrate solid wood. Your new shingles won't have a chance
to blow off.
- Second, we'll sweep the roof clean, drive down any loose nails, re-nail
any warped roof boards and inspect the roof boards for damage. At this time,
we will also replace any that have become rotten.
- Third, we'll install Ice & Water Shield along the eaves so that if
your gutters fill with ice or become clogged, the water won't be allowed to
back up under the shingles and penetrate your roof. This material is
self-sealing, so that after installation, this thick membrane will melt
around the nails as it glues itself to your roof deck.
- Fourth, we'll cover the rest of the roof with heavy duty felt paper to
cushion the shingles and shed water many years from now when the shingles
are at the end of their lifespan.
- Fifth, we'll fasten drip edges all around your roof to support the edges
of the shingles and keep water from running down your fascia boards.
- Of course we'll also replace any rotten soffit and fascia boards as we go
along. This saves a considerable amount of money as they won't have to be
replaced separately, later. And, the job is easier while everything is in
the open.
- We always install roof vents to improve air circulation and keep your
shingles cooler while removing unwanted humidity from attic spaces.
- Seventh, We'll install the fiberglass shingles. Fiberglass shingles
cost more, but in our opinion, your peace of mind is worth it.
- The shingles we use are UL® "Class-A" Fire-rated. No
one thinks their house will ever burn, but the security of having the
best shingle your money can buy, really is worth it. A flaming chunk of
wood 1-foot square by 3-inches thick can fall on your roof in 12
mile-per-hour winds and burn-out harmlessly with no damage to your
structure if you have "Class-A" Fire-rated shingles.
- We construct a "Boston" ridge and hip with individual shingles on
the edges of all roofs. This reduces the likely-hood of leaks compared
to the traditional
methods employing a strip of roll roofing material. Our method prevents
the nails from being exposed to the weather, so they don't rust and
leak.
- Only seal-tab shingles are used on our roofs. There are seals under
each and every one of these shingles that welds them permanently
together.
- We use only fresh shingles from a single batch, to ensure that every
shingle matches the others on the roof. A lot of other roofers will use
left-over shingles from other jobs to skimp on materials, even mixing
brands to save a penny. We treat your house like it's our own, we're
proud of it too.
- Finally, we'll clean up after ourselves. Every job
is left broom-swept clean. If you didn't see the new roof, you wouldn't know
we were there.
